Things to Do

There is so much to see and do on a cruise of Europe. Wake up in a different city each day as you travel from country to country meeting new people, exploring historic sites and experiencing new cultures. Even seven-day itineraries frequently visit three or four countries, giving travelers a variety of languages, tastes and excursions to choose from.

Countries in Europe have rich histories that stretch back hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of years. In the Mediterranean, track ancient civilizations and visit famous archaeological sites. Take in the astounding beauty of the Parthenon, perched high up on the Acropolis in Athens, and while there, stop in at the Acropolis Museum to see unique exhibits on ancient Greek civilization. Admire the amazing architecture of the Ayasofya in Istanbul, which has been painstakingly restored to its original splendor, or experience the beauty and craftsmanship of St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. Barcelona's unfinished Sagrada Familia is a sight to see with its eight soaring spires and amazing facade.

Europe has a culturally diverse background, which includes a variety of languages, beliefs, customs, cuisines and religions. Wander the narrow cobblestone streets of Stockholm's Gamla Stan in search of trendy boutiques and upscale art galleries. In Dublin, visit Irish Whiskey Corner for a little history and a taste of the country's most famous beverage. After a long day of sightseeing in London, rest your feet and satisfy your appetite with a pint of beer and a plate of bangers and mash in a traditional English pub. The beautiful city of St. Petersburg is well-known for its elaborate palaces and rich cultural heritage. Spend at least one day exploring the priceless treasures of the Hermitage and the Peter and Paul Fortress.

Shoppers will be delighted with the variety and quality of merchandise available all over Europe. Lavish boutiques, famous department stores and one-of-a-kind street markets allow travelers a unique opportunity to shop for trendy fashions, timeless collectibles or wonderful pieces of art. When visiting Genoa, take a trip over to Milan to check out the fashion boutiques and designer shops that are on the cutting edge of fashion. Or, spend hours searching the racks at Harrods in London.
